Nigerian billionaire businessman and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as “visionary leadership” in tackling perennial flooding and delivering transformative infrastructure projects across Nigeria.

In an open letter titled “Appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” shared by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via 𝕏 on Wednesday, business magnate Aliko Dangote praised President Tinubu for his contributions to major national infrastructure projects. Dangote highlighted Tinubu’s role in developing Eko Atlantic City and initiating several superhighway projects across the country.

Referring specifically to the Bar Beach Land Reclamation Project, Dangote noted that residents of Victoria Island, Lagos, have greatly benefited from measures taken to protect the coastline from erosion. “Your Excellency, this success story… is amongst your many legacies, and those of us who live in Victoria Island are much better off for it,” he wrote.

Dangote detailed how the 8.5km sea wall, popularly known as the Great Wall of Lagos, has not only prevented ocean surges but also helped reclaim about 1,000 hectares of land. This reclaimed space is now being used for homes, businesses, and leisure facilities, significantly transforming the landscape of the area.

In addition to praising Tinubu’s coastal protection initiatives, Dangote also commended efforts to tackle flooding in key parts of Victoria Island, including Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Bishop Oluwole Street, Amodu Ojikutu Street, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, and Karimu Kotun Street.

Beyond Lagos, Dangote applauded the administration for launching large-scale national projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway. He described the Sokoto-Badagry highway as the revival of a project conceived nearly five decades ago, now brought to life by Hitech Construction Company Limited.

Drawing a global comparison, Dangote referenced land reclamation projects in Zeeland, Netherlands, which successfully transformed waterlogged areas into productive land for farming and urban development. He described Nigeria’s climate and flood management efforts as aligned with these international best practices.

Finally, the Dangote Group extended condolences to victims of recent flooding in Kerr County, Texas, where over 100 lives were reportedly lost. Reacting to the open letter, Bayo Onanuga described it as “an honest and thoughtful assessment” of Tinubu’s leadership, contrasting sharply with critics who claim the president has achieved little over the past two years.
